My “Wordpress Security Guide” will teach you everything you need to know about securing your Wordpress installation to protect your blog from hackers, bots, spammers, and more! Maybe it’s never happenned to you, but you have no idea how many WP blogs are hacked each and every day. Most of the time web bots and automated software just look for vulnerable web sites and blogs – not just Wordpress – buy anything open source. They’re search for old versions they can exploit and drop scripts into, and then they begin searching everything in your hosting account for even more things to attack!
There are a few reasons I put this Wordpress security tutorial together. First and foremost, there are lots of blog articles online with tips or tricks here and there helping you to secure wordpress – but there is no single tutorial telling you EVERYTHING you need to know all in one place. Secondly – some people are a bit hesitant to implement these security features because they’re not so comfortable doing it themselves for fear they’ll screw up their blog or web site. I am a Wordpress Consultant, and if you need someone to secure your Wordpress blog – I can do that for you if you want to hire me.
Wordpress Security Guide: Part 1 – What You Should Be Afraid Of
I see comments online all the time like “my blog has never been hacked, I’m not worried about it”. I also have clients all the time who have been hacked, and had they known they could have prevented it – they would have! You have a good lock on your house, a modern alarm on your car – why would you leave your blog wide open? In the first part of the series I make you very aware of why Wordpress security is important.
Wordpress Security Guide: Part 2 – Finding Exploits in your blog
Part two of the Wordpress Security Guide shows you how easy it is to find exploits in your WP blog by using some very simple (and free) plugins. You don’t have to be a rock scientist to use these, you can find out right away what kinds of exploits your blog has open.
Wordpress Security Guide: Part 3 – How to Limit Access to Your Site
Part 3 of the Wordpress Security Guide shows how to limit access to your WP site using both an .htaccess file and robots.txt file. Learn how to lock down your wp-admin dir by password or IP address, and setup your robots.txt file so only public sections of your blog get indexed.
Wordpress Security Guide: Part 4 – Webhosting and Login Security
In part 4 of the Wordpress Security guide I explain what kinds of security question you may want to ask your current or potential web hosting company, because your web site is only secure as the neighborhood it’s in. In addition, probably the most important part of your Wordpress security is the actual login username and passwods you choose. Find out how to make them as strong as possible in this installment.
Wordpress Security Guide: Part 5 – Blocking Spam and Hack Attempts
This section of the Wordpress guide tells how to block hackers and spammers from compromising your blog. In addition – learn how to track all of those break-in attempts and errors in your WP site.
Wordpress Security Guide: Part 6 – wpconfig Security and More .htaccess Magic
In part 6 I’ll teach you some things you probably didn’t already know about your wp-config.php file, like how to move it outside of your public HTML area, how to use the secret keys, and how to limit access to it by spammers and hackers trying to gain access to your database login information. Also – learn 2 other places to add .htaccess files in your WP powered site that can make a significant security improvement!
