JTPratt

My name is John Pratt. I’ve been creating and maintaining web sites for about 10 years now. When I first started making web pages I was using Netscape Navigator 1.0 and the Trumpet Winsock to connect via dialup to the Internet on a 14.4 baud modem. I’ve used every version of Netscape there was, every version of IE, every version of Mozilla (and Firefox), I remember when animated gifs and frames were all the rage, and I used to surf the newsgroups all the time. I watched the rise of the dot com bubble, and the new social media tools now available in web 2.0. Years ago I used to write a weekly email newsletter that had more than 5,000 subscribers, and I also wrote web articles for many web sites and a few services.

I’ve owned my own business where I built, fixed, and maintained pc’s, I trained hundreds of people things from how to use the Internet and email to how to write HTML and create web sites. I worked at a (now defunct) ISP in Ann Arbor, Michigan until just before they closed their doors, and have since been working at a fortune 100 company maintaining web sites and applications for both Intranet and extranet.

I’ve owned many web sites about many things, and usually I write about things that I have life experience in, or am interested in. While I don’t seem to have time to write as much as I would like to for all of them – here are just a few…

  • www.smorgasbord.net: The Smorgasbord is my oldest site, I’ve owned it since 1999. It’s been many things, but mainly it’s my ramblings about techie type stuff, from my cell phone, to drupal, or ubuntu linux, or gadgets. I just migrated it from drupal (after 2 years) to Wordpress, and it seriously needs new content
  • www.guitar-review.info: Guitar Review started out as a product review blog and place where I posted music videos I found on YouTube. Then I started monetizing posts with eBay auctions. Now this web site is a fully fledged affiliate store thanks to datafeedR.
  • www.ttownsound.com: I play lead guitar in a rock cover band, T-Town Sound (T-Town stands for Toledo, Ohio), and this was the band web site. The band broke up, so I decided to turn it into a web site local music.
  • www.topjokes.info: I love a good joke, Top Jokes is where I post the funner ones I find. Over the last 2 years almost 600 jokes have been posted.
  • www.search-optimization-school.com: I’ve done SEO and search engine work for years, but some of the newer (and more fair) techniques I’m just learning to apply. This site is where I post seo type stuff as I learn it
  • www.fastestweightlossdiet.com: Fastest Weight Loss Diet was a keyword based domain I purchased on impulse a few years back. I think it will take a few more years of hard works to live up to it’s true potential. Currently I post diet and weight loss related posts, and this site has datafeedR installed and running as well.
  • www.accordingtokieli.com: According to Kieli is a site that I started for my daughter almost 3 years ago. She did managed to post 50-60 recipes before she quit – and I’ve been posting them ever since. A site like this is really hard to monetize other than Adsense, but recently I found Auction Thumbs – and it’s working great on this site!

This site is mostly about blogging, how to make money blogging, building affiliate and niche stores, Wordpress themes, Wordpress plugins, Wordpress hacks, SEO, link and traffic building, and working online.

I am available for design and consulting work. I do mentoring for online marketing and affiliate programs, SEO work, setup blogs and plugin, install software, and much, much more. For more information please fill out my contact form.
