I'd like to add that not only I receive a good bunch of traffic from Entrecard and have made some good aquaintances amongst other bloggers, but I've also developed a fancy widget to display the last 50 droppers on your blog. Yes, I know, "YAW" as you call it, but quite a lot of people liked it and are using it on their blogs, and it's even featured on Entrecard E-book. Well, that's not (only, hehe..) to toot my own horn, but to acknowledge the fact that Entrecard is a good and legit source of traffic for any blogger, and even more for new blogs.
