I have bought several premium templates and have no objection to payment as long as they come with support. I do not have the ability to code my own nor would I want to. If someone is prepared to invest their time to deliver something to the customer they deserve payment. However much we all like free you can't build an economy on it. What do I do with wordpress? I use it to make a living in areas where I have expertise. If you are an expert in wordpress you deserve to make a living (if that's what you choose). There are still plenty of free templates available for everyone else. Brain Gardeners themes (which I don't own) are an excellent example of the quality you can obtain for payment and represent tremendous value for money.
