My “Online Marketing Internship” program started in November 2009 when I realized 3 things:
- I owned more web sites than I could manage on my own
- I needed more people to do work or my business would not grow
- If I could teach interns how to make new sites profitable, I could repackage that information into an ebook or membership web site to help people that are struggling to build an online business
Online Marketing Internships
In November 2009 I announced my Online Marketing Internship Applications, and it was my intent to select 4 of the most qualified individuals. I received a lot of applications, but only two really stood out as ideal candidates for the program.
My First Two Online Marketing Interns
I started the first version of my online marketing internship program on November 19th, 2009, and designed it to be 5 months long to end April 19th, 2010. The first two interns were Prince Singh, and Bill Field. Since that time I have fired one intern – and hired two more. The last two will of course finish the 5 month program after the first since they started as interns one and two months after the orignal start date of November 19th, 2009.
My goal for having Online Marketing Interns is to teach them from scratch how to build a successful web site and document the process as we go. In the end they have knowledge from real world experience that you can’t get from any degree, and I will have the content I need for both a membership web site – and for new educational products. If there’s one thing I’ve learned from this process, it’s that you can easily pick people who have the right personality type and background for this type of work. What you can never gauge are organization, drive, follow-through, ability to work independently, and unforeseen events in someone’s life.

Bill had to end his internship early for personal reasons at the 4 month mark. What he accomplished in 4 months is nothing short of amazing.
