I think the strucure of your article is very imporant too - to attract visitors through to your site from your article. If your article becomes popular this could be quite a few!

Breaking your article into 3 or 5 points, like a list of 5 tips to something, this helps people to skim to the bottom fast. And at the bottom, instead of talking about yourself in the description box you should just offer a free short report on the topic at your site. Then just have an optini box somewhere on your blog! Works a charm :-)

I never knew you could submit your own content from your own site to Ezine Articles.

The last time I used Ezine Articles the requirements for submission had changed. They flagged me for to many Keywords. Thanks for pointing out what the submission guidelines are.

I'm still quite unsure about this duplicate content thing. Is it so that it's ok to re-publish my articles on my website to various article directories without having any concerns of duplicate content?

Yes it's pretty clear which directories give you link juice and which don't - but unfortunately you have no control over those who reprint your articles on their own sites. Most often (in my experience) these do not stick to the agreement to leave links intact.

But as long as you view any additional links gained from these reprints as a bonus to the main goal of getting links from the directories themselves, you won't be disappointed.

I use Ezine Articles and really find them fantastic. they actually send a fair bit of traffic as well as give a boost in the rankings so its a win-win service really.

Actually - if you follow the table in the post it lists the exact directies that dofollow and nofollow. None of them convert or remove links to nofollow later on - I've never seen that happen. In addition, duplicate content is not an issue. I republish articles at EzineArticles all the time and it's never once affected my pagerank or google standings. I don't post the same day though - I use articles a month or two later and submit them to article directories. Google knows who is the original author of the content from the date the article was first published.

Very good post as always!

Many feel article marketing doesn't work but it really does (especially for link building). It's also a great way to cast a wider net and harvest more visitors and possibly get more subscribers.

Like you said in your post, you have to make the article informative and read like you know what the hell you're talking about.

Interesting point about duplicate content - there are so many contrasting views out there. But if you think about it, when your article gets republished, that by definition is duplicate content too, so you may as well not bother with _any_ article directories if you're concerned about it, and if you do decide to jump in, you've got nothing to lose by submitting to several directories.

Question: of the articles that've been republished elsewhere, how many have left the links intact and dofollow? In my experience they're usually converted to nofollow or removed completely.

@John #1: What? Your not submitting articles worrying about whether the competition is going to see or not, you're building links. Ezine Articles requires you use your real name, so if you want to use their service, you play by their rules. Otherwise - just use other directories. They just don't nearly as much weight.

#2: Very true, but the main purpose of article marketing is building links, it's not for the traffic from the published articles.
