I've had the fortune of having my work (all client-side scripts/html/css/article) packaged up for sale, and then the thief got ripped off as well and the zip of "his" work is making its way around the torrent networks. So I'm probably going to have to file these to the end of times. Stats: 4 DMCAs, 2 sites taken down so far. I need to work on my legalese and improve that ratio.

I've found the DMCA notices to be pretty effective. I agree that normally I would contact someone first and ask them to stop using the writing or photo. However, a couple weeks ago, I found someone had stolen a photograph that I had taken, left my watermark in tack and published it on a commercial flier used to promote their business. I sent the ISP's a DMCA and the flier was removed.

Thank you very much for your post. I've noticed recently a few websites have blatantly copy and pasted my entire tutorials onto their website to give it the appearance of being "full", however they did this with out any permission, and no links back to my website.

This has been very informative!

As long as it is hosted in USA, right? As far as I know other countries couldn't care less about DMCA.
