the backlinks example is a rather great one….while you may think the links on twitter are nofollow, the MYRIAD of sites that use, reuse, and republish the twitter data streams are NOT all nofollow. This would include sites like friendfeed, and the titanic list of sites that use the twitter API. You need to think beyond just your twitter profile page, because twitter probably has the largest total footprint of any social networking site in the world due to the widespread use of the API.

While I agree that twitter is a cool tool for many reasons, I think the backlink example is a rather weak one. Just because backlinks on twitter are no follow. So useful for direct traffic if you have a massive amount of active followers but otherwise …

I think Twitter can be useful – as long as the numbers are kept low or there can be different groups. (I’ve never used TweetDeck but I heard it can do something like this.)I think they should eliminate the number of followers from the profile. It makes it like Facebook and their “I have the most friends!” contest they have going.

This article put my faith in twitter back in order. I was just about to shrug twitter away from my online routine. Wow, it’s hard to believe that a twitter profile can outrank a home page. This is definitely a page worthy of saving for later re-savoring. Thanks.

I just read a blog entry about Twitter and it’s decline. If you search “The Social Media curve” you’ll see a post at BloodHound. Eric makes the point that Twitter is on the downside and makes a comparison to MySpace.

JT, I know you’re right about Twitter. Perhaps it’s time for me to spend a week or so learning the ins and outs. It definitely sounds like a powerful tool when you put it that way.

I’ve always been afraid of the perceived amount of work (tweets) that might take up my day.
