It's a confusing topic and hard to get some solid info on. You read about big bloggers suggesting TLA as a source of income for you blog yet they do not use it themselves. I had TLA on a couple of my blogs a few years ago and made a couple of hundred from them... then my visits via google took a nose dive.

Now I'm considering if maybe TLA on a new blog might jump start some revenue without killing the growth. It's a tuff call and thanks for the post.

I think people are still getting use out of TLA. Some buyers actually do keep google in mind and buy text links that point to a 302 redirect instead of their homepage but many still dont. Although there are penalties for buying links, this hasn't seemed to affect the cost. Some linking opps I've seen on TLA are still pricy.

Don't let google take over the internet completely!! What's next, you have to agree with Google's politics to be on the web? Come on, people should just forget about page rank and focus on types of traffic other than goggle.

They're definitely not dead. Lots of people are making hundreds a month with them, and the google slap is not all that - they just dont display toolbar pagerank for sites that get hit.

I don't think TLA is dead. I think so many blogs have sprung up over the past year that Google just couldn't keep up. I started my blog in May 2007 and only this month did I get a PR of 3 finally. I think Google has been busy working on new algorithms and such and buying up the YouTubes of the web, that they just couldn't keep up with the blossoming blogging world that sprung up seemingly out of nowhere.

I still run TLA and last month had one referral and got a cool $25 via paypal for it. That paid for January's hosting. sweet! I'm still going to keep TLA and if Google doesn't like it, they can kiss my fat blogging ass.

I opted out of TLA and requested Google to reconsider giving me my PR back, here you can read it how I got it back http://www.lifeiscolourful.com/how-to-get-reconsidered-for-page-rank-after-google-penalization/

And I second your opinion, they were not really very polite.
