Link building have always been about content, no. of articles published and also about embedding keywords whether it is submission to directory or article writing. Try it the next time but building 1,000 links in 4 months -that works out to be around 250 links/ months. Great effort & well done!

I have Commentluv, Keywordluv and Top Commenters plugins installed in my sites, and I would recommend this to webmaster who are starting out. They are a great way to promote your site and find your way to the first page of the search engines.

Few advises for me if i may
Seach for blogs that dofollow, there are a lot of them, so do a search with google –
“your keyword” keywordluv
“your keyword” commentluv
“your keyword” “top commentators”

Another useful advice would be to write articles and submit them to article directories – a lot of auto blogs out there – so they will grab your articles and post. The key is to include links to your website in that article as well.

Another one – to use forms, just comment on forums, and use your website as signature on all your posts.

There a lot of other options as well – remember, dont be shine and do your work, all gonna be fine!

@ Earth Friendly Goodies: the free traffic system is not spammy, you submit articles and you choose up to 30 blogs which may publish your article. There are several paid services like that out there. However, I have to admit that some blogs treat your article like cheap PLR and stuff them with text link ads etc. So by now I have a list which are the goods ones, but of course there also other methods to build back links.
Will have a look into the MrLinky plugin, thanks for the tip!

@ Cheap Web Site Host: I guess there were times when I gladly would have taken “links by the hundreds each day”, but of course there are risks attached. Slow and steady is the way to go and I guess one is never finished building links …

@ Spanish mortgages: luckily we learn and that makes us much quicker the second time, I am impressed anyway! Good luck with your new site!

It took me just under a year to build about 1000 link s to my first site. I got the rankings i as after and a PR of3.
The site achieved in its 1st year pretty much what I wanted it to.
I then started another site and managed 2,500 links in 4 months- no PR yet but a reult in rankings for a much harder keyword.

Starting another site now – hopefully the content will be better, the design should be better too (using one of JT´s templates although struggling a little editing it) and for now I have a pretty good backlinking process which doesnt take up all my time.

You learn as you go and it definitely gets easier!

Great story, and good information. I will try doing the same. I have been posting comments on other peoples sites for a wile now. This is very slow and time consumming work. I just hope that it pays off in time.
